About regulations for applications and works

Q. Are there any qualifications required to enter the contest?

A. You can enter the contest regardless of nationality, age, gender, or professional/amateur status.
Individuals 18 years of age or younger must have consent from a guardian. We will judge at the time of entry that guardian consent has been received.

Q. Is there any fee to enter the contest?

A. There is no fee to participate. However, you are responsible for costs associated with the entry such as the internet connection fee.

Q. Is entry limited to works taken with Nikon photography equipment?

A. You may use any photography or film equipment.

Q. Will submitted works be returned?

A. No, submitted works will not be returned.

Q. Will I receive notification that my work has been received?

A. You will not be sent a notice of the receipt regarding your entry, but you can check on the "My Account" section of this website. Please log in and check for yourself.

Q. Can edited photos be submitted? To what degree can photos be edited and submitted?

A. You can submit photos processed and edited by camera applications, editing applications, software, etc. You may submit color or black and white photos.

Q. Is it possible for a group to submit a single work?

A. Even works submitted by a group will be entered under the name of one representative.
If the work wins, we will request the names of the individuals who collaborated to create it, and these individuals will receive the award as a group.

Q. Can a work be submitted regardless of when it was taken?

A. Yes, a work taken on any date may be submitted.

Q. The work is watermarked or includes copyright information. Is it possible to submit it? Also, is it recommended to include copyright information in my work?

A. Yes, you can submit it. You can submit works regardless of whether they include copyright information or not.

Q. Please tell me the entry period.

A. The entry period is as described below.

Q. Can I enter under a nickname? I do not want my real name to be made public.

Q. Please tell me the size and format.

A. For photo submissions, the file size for each image must be within 20 MB, the recommended file format is JPEG/150 dpi or more, and sRGB color space is standard.

Q. Is it possible to submit works that are also submitted to another contest?

A. No. For the Photo Competition, even works that are submitted to other contests after they have been submitted to this contest will not be accepted, as they will be considered to be works that have been submitted to other contests.

Q. After entering, is it possible to submit my work to another contest?

Q. Only works that have not already been presented and released can be submitted for entry, but what about works that have been published on a website or SNS?

A. You must submit original photos that have not been released as printed, web-based, or other media (including advertisements and stock photos) and for which you own all copyrights. In addition, original works that have been released by individuals on social media can be entered.

Q. Why can't I enter by submitting a printed photo?

A. In order to judge the numerous works submitted from around the world under the same conditions as much as possible, we do not accept printed photos.

Q. It is possible to submit a scan of a photograph taken with a film camera?

A. Yes, you can submit it.

Q. My photo has a date stamp. Can I submit it?

A. Yes, you can submit photos with or without a date stamp for this contest. Either is fine.

About regulations for applications and works (videos)

Q. Please tell me the size and format.

A. Video submissions should consist of video footage and/or still images (and must be 180 to 300 seconds long for the Short Film Category or 20 to 40 seconds long for the Super Short Film Category). The file size for one work must be within 600 MB, and the format must be MOV or MP4, with a video compression method of H.264 MPEG-4VC.

Q. Is it possible to submit a 360-degree video?

A. Submissions are limited to edited works that do not depend on devices or entries designed for 360-degree video playback.

Q. What is the environment of the judging monitors for the Short Film Competition?

A. The judging is generally conducted using 2K monitors.

Q. Are English language subtitles necessary when the language used is English?

A. No subtitles are necessary if English is used.

Q. Is it possible to submit works that are also submitted to another contest?

A. Yes. For videos, you may submit works that have been submitted to another contest.

Q. After entering, is it possible to submit my work to another contest?

A. Yes. For videos, you may simultaneously submit works to other contests as well.

Q. For submission, are works required to be unpresented and unreleased?

A. For videos, you may submit presented and/or released works as long as they are original works for which you own all copyrights.

How to apply
(errors, changing registration information)

Q. Is it possible to enter multiple times?

A. It is possible to enter up to the number of times allowed under the rules. If the same person is determined to have submitted multiple times exceeding the number set by the rules, no further entries will be processed.

Q. After entering, is it possible to cancel my entry and resubmit another work?

A. Yes, it is. During the entry period, you may cancel entries and resubmit unlimited times. However, please be careful as cancellation or submissions cannot be accepted after the entry period has ended.

Q. Is it possible to submit works by email directly to Nikon or the Nikon Photo Contest Office?

A. Submissions sent to places other than this website will not be processed. Also, please note that should data be sent to the wrong place in error, it will not be processed nor will you receive notification.

Q. What will happen if I leave part of the entry form blank by mistake?

A. The entry form cannot be sent unless all required sections have been completed. Any mandatory sections which have been skipped will be indicated on the screen, so please do not leave any of these sections blank.

Q. What will happen if my data is lost or damaged due to an incident during data transmission?

A. As Nikon will not take responsibility for this, please make sure to back up and store your data prior to submission.

Q. Is it possible to submit works through recording media such as a DVD?

A. No, it is not. Entries are only accepted through the Internet.

Q. My image cannot be uploaded properly.

A. Please review the instructions for the entry form on this website.

A. Follow the directions on the "If you forgot your password" guidance on the login screen, and enter your email address and date of birth for a temporary URL to be sent to you to reset your password.

Q. I forgot my email address.

A. If you cannot log in due to forgetting your email address, please send an inquiry to support@entry.nikon-photocontest.com.

Q. I want to change my email address.

A. Please click "Edit" on the "Update user information" on the "My Page" section of the website and select "Change email address." Please input and send your current email address. A URL to complete the change will be sent to you. Please follow the instructions in the email to proceed with applying for any changes. Your information will be changed.

Q. I can't log in.

A. Please reconfirm that your registered email address and password are correct, and if this does not resolve your issue, please send an inquiry to support@entry.nikon-photocontest.com.

About application categories

Q. In the Photo Competition, what is a "single photo," and what is a "photo story"?

A. "single photo" is a work consisting of one photo, and a "photo story" is a work in which multiple photos are connected in a series. For this contest, you may submit photo stories consisting of 2 to 5 photos.

Q. Is it possible to submit both a single photo and a photo story (set of multiple images)?

A. Yes, it is. For the Photo Competition, you can submit up to five works, including both the Single Photo Category and the Photo Story Category. For the Short Film Competition, you can submit one work in the Short Film Category and one work in the Super Short Film Category.

Q. Is it possible to submit the same work in both the Single Photo and the Photo Story Categories?

A. No, you cannot submit a photo story that contains an image that is the same as or similar to a submitted single photo, and you cannot submit multiple photo stories that contain the same or similar images as separate works.

Q. Is it necessary to enter all of the video works, Single Photo and Photo Story Categories?

A. No, you may also enter any one of these categories by itself.

Q. Is it possible to enter all competitions?

A. You may enter all competitions. But even in this case, identical or similar works may not be entered as different works or in different competitions. *Explanation of the entry rules for each competition (referring to the list). *It is also possible to use a single photo as a part of a photo story.

Q. Is it possible to submit more than one work in the Single Photo Category?

A. Yes, you can submit multiple works. You can submit up to five works, including photo stories.

Q. For a photo story, up to how many photos can be included as one work?

A. Up to five photos can be used as a photo story.

Q. Please tell me how to check my submitted work.

A. You can check from "Submitted work list"on the "My Account" section of the website. If you select an image, you can check and edit the detailed information.

About the judging

Q. Please tell me the reasons for choosing the judges.

A. Judges are chosen with consideration to outstanding experience and knowledge in both photos and videos.

Q. Will I be able to receive an evaluation and advice from the judges?

A. We cannot provide evaluation or advice for items other than the award-winning works.

Q. How are results determined?

A. Each award is chosen after a first round, second round, and final evaluation. The final evaluation is conducted through earnest discussion among all of the judges.

Q. Where and when is the final evaluation held?

A. The final evaluation is planned to be conducted in June 2023. The location will not be made public.

About the announcement of results and award-winning works

Q. When will results be available, and how will I know them?

A. Award winners only will be notified via an email to their registered email address from the Nikon Photo Contest Office by mid-July 2023. The award winners and the award-winning works are planned to be announced on this website by September 2023. Note that the Grand Prize winner will be decided on the day of the award ceremony.

Q. Have results been announced? Please tell me if I have won an award.

A. Award winners will be contacted by email by mid-July 2023. Also, award-winning works are planned to be posted on our website by September 2023. Results will not be handled individually.

Q. I didn't win an award. Please tell me the reason.

A. We cannot provide evaluations or comments for individual submitted works.

Q. I want to know more details about why the winning works were chosen to receive awards.

A. We cannot provide any further comment on the works other than what is provided on our website.

About receiving awards and exclusive benefits

Q. If I win an award, will the prize money and award be sent to me? Will Nikon pay the tax, etc.?

A. We will contact each prize winner individually regarding award distribution methods and taxes.

Q. Is it possible for me to change the camera or lens received as a prize to a different model?

A. No, you cannot change the prize item.

Q. The camera and lens received as prizes are regulated in my country. Is it possible to change them to different items?

A. In cases where there are regulations in the award winner's country of residence, Nikon will make changes at its discretion. We cannot handle requests from award winners.

Q. Is it possible to receive my award if I cannot participate in the award ceremony?

A. Yes, you can still receive the award.

Q. If I don't know how to use the camera or lens received as prizes, is there a place where I can get help?

A. We will inform the winners of the authorized Nikon service center in their area of residence.

Q. Can I receive a cash prize instead of the prize camera or lens?

A. No, you cannot receive cash in lieu of the prize item.

A. The award structure is as follows:
Grand Prizes: One award winner from each of the following: Photo Competition and Short Film Competition.
*The Grand Prize winner will be selected from the Excellence Award winners for each competition.

Excellence Award: Four award winners from each of the following: Photo Competition and Short Film Competition.

Special Encouragement Award: Eight award winners from each of the following: Photo Competition and Short Film Competition.

General Public Award: One award winner from each of the following: Photo Competition and Short Film Competition.

Other matters

Q. How will the submitted works and private information be handled after the contest has finished?

A. Deletion procedures will be carried out on December 31, 2023.
For those who would like to receive a notification from the host about the next contest,etc.., deletion procedures will be carried out on December 31, 2024.
Award winners' information will be handled according to the Award Winners' Agreement document.
