About the Nikon Film and Photo Contest
History
Nikon has held film and photo
contests for more than half a century since the Nikon Photo Contest
International in 1969, with the aims of providing a place for professionals and
amateurs alike around the world who love photos and films to interact, and
contributing to the development of imaging culture.
Following the wider adoption of digital cameras in society, the environment
surrounding cameras and imaging culture has changed significantly. The contest
always seeks the best way to solicit entries for the times, so for the 34th
contest in 2012, we changed the name to the Nikon Photo Contest. For the 40th
contest this year, we changed the name to the Nikon Film and Photo Contest in
response to the changing times, such as the diversification of media and the
rise of personal video streaming devices. This contest continues to evolve in
order to discover new perspectives and create new opportunities.
Vision
The Nikon Film and Photo Contest shares important stories through the global language of imaging, and fosters a community full of ambition in which creators who influence the way people think can support each other.
Significance to Enter the Nikon Film and Photo Contest
We believe that those who enter the
Nikon Film and Photo Contest have the opportunity to communicate their vision to
the world, and are able to achieve personal growth while they share their
diverse perspectives and inspire society at the same time.
This contest encourages the creative endeavors of creators. We provide support
for the sharing of their works around the world, and we also devote our energy
to promoting the community with which they are shared.
Greetings
Muneaki Tokunari
Representative Director and Chairman
Nikon Corporation
We believe in the power of visual
imagery.
Beauty lurks in everyday moments and seemingly ordinary scenes, waiting to be
revealed through the discerning eye of a creator. This power has consistently
moved hearts across generations and positively influenced society.
This contest, which we at Nikon have hosted since 1969, has a rich history
spanning over half a century. It has become a global platform for creators of
all ages, nationalities and experience levels to share diverse messages and
inspire people worldwide.
In today's social media-driven world, many have become both creators and
communicators, capturing and sharing their own images. Recently, we've seen a
surge in short film production and posting, significantly increasing our
exposure to film content. In response, we've rebranded the contest as the "Nikon
Film and Photo Contest" to embrace a wider range of creative works and support
their global dissemination.
The theme for both Short Film and Photo Competitions is "Inspire." We eagerly
anticipate entries that evoke fresh perspectives and stir emotions. We encourage
all participants to unleash their imagination and push their creative
boundaries.
At Nikon, we remain committed to supporting creators and exploring the potential
of visual imagery. Through this contest, we hope you'll tap into your inner
creativity and join us on a journey towards the future of visual expression.
New Logo
The concept behind the new logo
for the Nikon Film and Photo Contest is "new perspective."
Entrants to the Nikon Film and Photo Contest are people with a unique
perspective for uniquely capturing themes and subjects.
The aim of this logo is to allow people who see the competition entries to
consider whether a different perspective exists and ask them to see things
from a different angle.
