I'm honored to have won a prize in this contest and especially this category. This is my first multimedia project, and I've been dreaming about making a photographic movie about the carnival for 3 years. Sardinia has a special place in my heart and I'm happy to see that others appreciate it too.
Since 2010 I've been visiting Sardinia. I soon learned about the traditional way of celebrating carnival. In the summer of 2012 I met Franco Maritato, who makes the masks that are being weared during the carnival. These masks have a special role, since they bring the characters that participate in the carnival alive. In 2013 I returned to photograph and film the actual feast. The carnival lasts 3 days, but the second day got canceled, because it was raining so much. Luckily on this day I met Marco Zedde who plays traditional Sardinian music. He plays the song in the background, which is the actual song of Ottana.
