Carol Guzy was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Florida's Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, where she studied photography, in 1980 with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Photography.
She worked as a staff photographer at The Miami Herald for eight years. In 1988, she was hired as a staff photographer for The Washington Post. She stayed at that position until 2014, when she became a freelance photographer.
She received her fourth Pulitzer with her coverage of the Haitian earthquake in 2010. She has been named Photographer of the Year for the National Press Photographers Association three times and eight times for the White House News Photographers Association, and has earned many other prestigious awards in the field of photojournalism. She specializes in human interest documentaries, spot news and feature stories, and is currently editing for book projects.
