I touched my first camera was when I joined the U.S. Army as a photojournalist in 2005. It was a Nikon D70. In 10 years, I have used several other Nikon models (D1, D2, D300S, D700, FM2, and, now, Df) to photograph hundreds of military operations and work toward an MFA in Photography. Winning such a prestigious award makes be glad, and proud, that I kept a Nikon by my side the entire way. Thank you, this means more than you can imagine. This series is being created as part of my thesis project for my graduate program. Because it is such, my approach and execution is methodic and deliberate. These images were created in and around El Paso, during the day when the sky is free of clouds, in the most metropolitan parts of town. I consider this work to be a hybrid of fine art, documentary, and "social landscape."
